From a small idea to cutting-edge security insights
The Particle Accelerator’s journey began with our founder, Lila Green’s internship at the United States Embassy in Lagos, Nigeria, in the summer of 2000. It was there that she first observed the profound emotional toll foreign affairs work took on officers. This experience ignited a lifelong interest in national and international security, leading her to transition from a career in entertainment to the security sector. Bringing an artist’s unconventional problem-solving mindset to national security academia and practice, Lila consistently found her unique perspective sparking new thoughts among colleagues and professors. This realization—that artistically-trained individuals possess a distinct ability to innovate no matter the resources—formed the foundation of The Particle Accelerator: providing national and international security leaders with consultants who think differently by design.

About our Executive Director, Lila Green
Lila is the Executive Director and Founder of The Particle Accelerator. She was an International Affairs Fellow to Canada with the Council on Foreign Relations in the 2024-25 year and an Amplify Fellow with the Pacific Council on International Policy in 2022. Lila was the President of Women in International Security - Western States (WIIS West) from 2018-2023 and founded the Middlebury Institute chapter (WIIS @ MIIS) in 2018. While president of WIIS West, she created and hosted Show of Force, an international affairs podcast, which ran from 2020-2022. Lila has been a part of consultation roundtables with the U.S. Department of State, visiting delegations of foreign leaders, and has been an invited guest to the UN Security Council and General Assembly in New York City.
Aside from her professional work, Lila was on the Board of Directors for the Academy of Friends, an AIDS/HIV charity in San Francisco from 2014-2017 and a volunteer with the East Bay Area Parks.
Prior to her current career, Lila was a professional actor and dancer and remains a proud member of SAG-AFTRA.
She is currently pursuing her PhD in Political Science at Simon Fraser University and holds an MA in Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies with a Specialization in Financial Crimes Management from the Middlebury Institute for International Studies, as well as a BFA in Theatre from Depaul University.
Last but not least, she is a single mom, a dog mom, a skier, and a passionate cinaphile.
